Discover Ruby's By The Sea

Walking into Ruby's By The Sea feels like stepping into the kind of coastal diner locals quietly hope tourists never discover. It sits right along the shore at 2608 N Ocean Blvd, Pompano Beach, FL 33062, United States, where the salty breeze rolls through the doors and the pace of life slows down to beach time. I stopped by after a sunrise walk, flip-flops still sandy, and ended up staying far longer than planned-always a good sign.

The menu leans heavily into classic American diner comfort with a coastal twist. Breakfast is where the place really shines. Watching the cooks work the griddle is almost hypnotic, especially when you see pancakes poured by hand and eggs cracked fresh to order. I ordered what the server called their most popular plate-two eggs, crispy bacon, and house-seasoned home fries-and it arrived hot, fast, and exactly how I asked. That kind of consistency matters. According to the National Restaurant Association, diners that focus on simple dishes executed well tend to earn higher repeat visits, and it shows here in the steady flow of regulars who greet the staff by name.

Lunch brings a different crowd and a slightly different vibe. The burgers are thick, never frozen, and grilled the old-school way. One afternoon, I watched a family split a basket of fries while debating dessert, which turned into everyone ordering pie anyway. The milkshakes deserve special mention-hand-spun, dense, and unapologetically indulgent. It reminded me why classic diners still hold their ground despite the rise of fast-casual chains. Researchers from Cornell’s Food and Brand Lab have noted that nostalgic dining experiences increase perceived food satisfaction, and this place quietly proves that point.

Service here is relaxed but sharp. Servers seem to know when to chat and when to let you enjoy your meal in peace. During one visit, I asked how they manage rush hours without sacrificing quality. The answer was refreshingly honest: smaller prep batches, frequent checks, and a kitchen rhythm built over years. That process mirrors best practices recommended by the James Beard Foundation, which emphasizes workflow and training over flashy concepts.

Reviews from locals echo the same themes-reliable food, fair prices, and a welcoming atmosphere. You’ll see comments praising the coffee refills that never run dry and the staff who remember your usual order. Not every review is glowing, though. A few mention longer waits on weekends, especially during tourist season. That’s fair, and it’s worth knowing if you’re on a tight schedule. Still, most agree the wait is part of the charm, especially when you’re seated with a view and nowhere else to be.

What stands out most is how grounded the place feels. There’s no attempt to reinvent diner culture or chase trends. Instead, it sticks to what works: fresh ingredients, straightforward cooking, and genuine hospitality. In an era where many restaurants feel engineered for photos, this one feels engineered for people. If you value that kind of experience, it delivers without trying too hard, and that’s exactly why it keeps earning loyal fans year after year.

  • A place I will most likely never forget. Truly amazing! Flavors were exploding at every mouthful in such wonderful ways. My constant mistake, if the food is that good, I can't put down the fork long enough to take a picture lol. Though it might be quite some time before I make it back to this area, I do hope they are still here. Thank you for sharing a bit of authentic Italian flavors for me and my friends.

  • This is the best calzone! If you like cheese & garlic you will love it. Every time I’m down from Ohio we get it.

  • Wow. Delicious Italian, excellent customer service and easy Florida strip mall atmosphere. (We ate outside) Pizza was incredible and fresh, ingredients were all top shelf. Chef is Sicilian and knows exactly what he’s doing!

  • We always take pizza to go. Very frequent customer. Pizza is good thin crust and mostly consistent. The staff is friendly and responsive. I’ve never sat there to eat but it looks ok. Nothing elegant but I always take to go so don’t really care.

  • 12/16/25- 6pm Friday: Wow! Best Pizza in South Florida! A hidden treasure! Everything is delicious! The garlic knots are like fluffy pillows of goodness! I’m not a big garlic fan but I almost licked the plate! Really definitely order some to begin with for the table! I used to live across the street many years ago and we would eat here 3 times a week! It’s even better now than it was! The pizza I ordered was the large 16” Light on the sauce, extra cheese and pepperoni! First the crust is buttery and full of flavor! The pizza was foldable and beyond delicious! Truly! The most delicious pizza ever! Really! We sat outside and you literally felt like you were in a quaint village in Italy! Red checkered tablecloths and fun lights! Easy free parking!!! The service from Ms. Emine was outstanding! Service with a smile!!! Very attentive and helpful! Charming! They have a great happy hour!!! I had the house Italian Chardonnay for $6.00 a huge glass! What’s not to love! I’m pretty sure Gino made my pizza who charmingly said he recognized me from so many years ago! He is a treasure! An epic pizza chef!!! Please try this amazing Italian Restaurant! Authentic Italian food made with Love! You will thank me! It’s my new favorite place! As I finalize my move back down here I am excited to see my old haunts have upgraded! I highly recommend!

  • Ate here twice to provide a thorough review. Garlic knots were warm and very garlicky. Fine for me but could be toned down a touch for most pallets. The salads were fresh and amazing but the sauce was a bit watery which wasn’t aesthetically pleasing. Spaghetti noodles were firm. Marinara sauce was tasty and fresh. Eggplant parmesan was not memorable. I’m from MI where oddly we have a large concentrated population of Italians so I’m spoiled. Again it wasn’t bad and for a beach town should exceed expectations. The 4 cheese pizza was splendid! Very cheesy so you get want you asked for. Brilliantly cooked to perfection. Crunchy but not burnt. Thin and not heavy sauce. The service was stellar as well. She was attentive and sweet to our daughter. They are great about greeting you upon entry and exit.

  • I love eating at this place. The owner‘s name is Gino and he’s the kindest most accommodating host you will ever have at a restaurant and his waitress is the kindest sweetest ever. I don’t go anywhere else for pizza than Ruby‘s by the sea in Pompano Beach
